Fixing Our Eyes on the Lord, Our Ever-Present Help
When human strength runs out, God’s help remains. The Maker of heaven and earth is our unfailing Helper, present in every season, able to carry us when we cannot carry ourselves.
Fixing Our Eyes on the Lord, Our Ever-Present Help
“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2 NKJV
Every one of us faces seasons where we need help beyond what human strength can provide. Sometimes it’s the weight of responsibilities, the sting of loss, or the uncertainty of the future. Human wisdom can solve many problems, but not every problem. Human support is valuable, yet people can fail, disappoint, or simply be unable to meet our deepest needs.
It is in this reality of limitation that Psalm 121:2 shines with hope. The psalmist doesn’t deny weakness; he redirects dependence. He declares, “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Notice he does not say, “My help comes from above” or “from creation.” He states plainly: “My help comes from the Lord.” This is not an impersonal force or vague spirituality—it is the living God, the covenant-keeping Lord who revealed Himself to Israel and now reveals Himself to us in Jesus Christ.
The psalmist identifies the Lord not only by His name but also by His work—“the Maker of heaven and earth.” This is crucial. The One we turn to for help is not limited, powerless, or fragile. He is the Creator of all things, the One who spoke galaxies into being, who formed mountains, and who gave breath to humanity.
To confess that our help comes from the Lord is to embrace two truths: first, we are limited and in need; second, God is limitless and able. Unlike human help, which falters, God’s help is unfailing. He never grows weary, never overlooks us, and never abandons us. His help is constant in every season—whether in crisis or in the quiet struggles of daily life.
When you feel overwhelmed, remember your Helper is the Almighty. When you feel unseen, know He watches over you day and night. When you feel weak, His strength is made perfect in weakness.
So lift your eyes beyond your situation and fix them on the Lord. He not only helps—He delights to do so. Rest in this truth: the Maker of heaven and earth is your Helper, and His help will never fail.
