Jesus, Our Unconquerable Strong Man

Believers war from a position of victory, not for victory, because of Jesus who defeated Satan, the strong man, and set us free from bondage.

Mark 3:27

“No one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.” – Mark 3:27 (NKJV)

In this passage, Jesus responds to accusations that He cast out demons by Satan’s power, using the principle of plundering in warfare. He points out that to rescue captives from a strong person’s house or plunder their goods, the stronger one must defeat the strong man. The stronger one must go to the strong person’s house, bind them, and then take away their goods and free people who are being held captive.

The “strong man” in the passage represents Satan, who once held humanity in bondage through sin, fear, and death. We were too weak and powerless to break free from him by ourselves. Then Jesus, the Stronger Man who cannot be defeated, came and triumphed over Satan, every principality and power, making a public spectacle of them while stripping them of their power (Colossians 2:15) on the cross. Through His resurrection, Jesus proved He has power over even death and the grave.

As believers, we do not fight for victory; we fight from a position of victory. Jesus has already bound the strong man of this world; sin no longer has dominion over us. We live each moment in victory, knowing fear must yield to faith, and despair must bow to hope. Jesus secures our freedom and guarantees our ultimate triumph on His future return.

The enemy continues to whisper lies of defeat, but remember that your Strong Man has already overcome. Just rest in His embrace, walk in His power, and rejoice in His victory, being assured that no one and nothing can overcome our Lord Jesus, the One who is mighty to save.

Reflection Question: In what area of your life do you need to remember that Jesus has already bound the strong man and won the victory for you?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Strong Man. Help me walk in the freedom You secured and trust in Your unshakable power. Amen.
