Our God Silences Our Enemy’s Boast
The enemy may boast and scheme, but God always has the final word. Through Christ, God’s power silences our enemies’ threats of destruction and secures our victory.
“The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, My hand shall destroy them.’”
Exodus 15:9 NKJV
The enemy always boasts of victory before the battle is won. The confidence of the enemy rests on the physical power of his army and weapons, making him think he is superior to the people of God.
The Israelites stood at the Red Sea with no means of crossing it. Pharaoh and his army, hardened in pride, declared with confidence that they would overtake Israel, plunder them, and destroy them. Their words reveal the arrogance of every force that sets itself against God’s people. With Pharaoh’s army pressing behind them, the Israelites had no way of escape, no weapons to defend themselves , and no strength of their own to even attempt to fight, humanly speaking. The enemy strode confidently toward God’s people assured of the destruction the Israelites. Victory appeared imminent, but the story didn’t end with the enemy’s boast; it ended with God’s triumph. God displayed His matchless power. With one breath of His wind, the sea closed in and silenced Pharaoh’s schemes forever.
This verse reminds us that the enemy of our souls still schemes today, and the profound truth that our survival, victory, and future in life do not rest in our own strength, but in God’s. Left to ourselves, we are vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes. But when we lean fully on the Lord, His power becomes our refuge and our deliverance.
We often face “Red Sea moments”—situations where we feel trapped, weak, and unable to fight. Our enemy boasts that he will steal our joy, our peace, and our faith. He plots to divide families, weaken churches, and discourage hearts. Yet all his boasts are empty before the power of God.
When the enemy boasts loudly, we need not fear. His plans are no match for God’s promises. His schemes collapse under the weight of God’s sovereign hand. Our dependence on God becomes our lifeline. His wisdom guides us, His strength sustains us, and His presence assures us.
Today, let Exodus 15:9 remind us that while the enemy may plot, his power ends where God’s hand begins. Our true security is not in our own ability, but in complete reliance on the Lord who fights for us. Our only role is to trust, stand firm, and watch the Lord fight for us.
